Ingredients

1 pound (450g) beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain

3 cups broccoli florets (fresh or frozen)

2 tablespoons vegetable oil (divided)

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced

1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced (optional)

1/4 cup soy sauce (low-sodium preferred)

2 tablespoons oyster sauce

1 tablespoon cornstarch

1/2 cup beef broth or water

1 tablespoon sesame oil

1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for heat)

Cooked jasmine rice or quinoa (for serving)

Instructions

Prep Ingredients: Begin by preparing your ingredients. Slice the beef thinly against the grain to ensure tenderness. If using fresh broccoli, wash it thoroughly and cut it into small florets. Mince the garlic and ginger finely, and if you're using a red bell pepper, slice it thinly as well.

Marinate Beef: In a medium-sized bowl, combine the thinly sliced beef with the soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, and red pepper flakes (if desired). Mix everything well to coat the beef evenly. Let the mixture sit to marinate for about 5 minutes while you prepare the remaining ingredients.

Cook Broccoli: In a large skillet or wok, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot and shimmering, add the broccoli florets to the pan. Stir-fry them for roughly 2-3 minutes until they turn vibrant green and are slightly tender. Once done, remove the broccoli from the skillet and set it aside.

Stir-Fry Beef: In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add in the minced garlic and ginger, stirring constantly for about 30 seconds until they become fragrant. Next, introduce the marinated beef to the skillet in a single layer. Cook the beef for about 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it’s evenly browned and cooked through.

Combine and Sauce: Once the beef is cooked, return the cooked broccoli to the skillet along with the sliced red bell pepper (if using). Pour in the beef broth or water and drizzle with sesame oil. Stir everything together and let it cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to blend beautifully and the sauce to thicken slightly.

Serve: Serve your beef and broccoli stir-fry hot over bowls of fluffy jasmine rice or nutritious quinoa. Enjoy this quick and delicious meal that’s sure to please!
