Ingredients

1 sheet of puff pastry (thawed)

4 oz (113g) sliced ham

4 oz (113g) cheese (Swiss or cheddar, sliced)

1 large egg (for egg wash)

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

1 tablespoon fresh chives (finely chopped, optional)

Salt and freshly cracked black pepper to taste

All-purpose flour for dusting

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 400°F (200°C). Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper to prevent sticking.

Prepare the Puff Pastry: Lightly dust your work surface with flour. Roll out the sheet of puff pastry into a large rectangle, ensuring it's about 1/8 inch thick. Cut the pastry into small triangles, each measuring approximately 3x4 inches.

Assemble the Filling: Take each triangle of pastry and spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard over the surface, making sure to leave a half-inch border at the edges. Place a slice of ham followed by a slice of cheese on top of the mustard. For an extra burst of flavor, sprinkle a few chopped chives and a pinch of salt and pepper over the fillings.

Roll the Croissants: Starting from the base (wide end) of each triangle, carefully roll the pastry toward the tip (point). Tuck the edges in slightly as you roll to secure the filling inside and form a crescent shape.

Brush with Egg Wash: In a small bowl, crack the egg and whisk it until well beaten to create an egg wash. Use a pastry brush to generously coat the tops of each rolled croissant with the egg wash, which will give them a beautiful golden color when baked.

Bake the Croissants: Arrange the assembled croissants on the prepared baking sheet. Place them in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 15-20 minutes, or until they are puffed up and have developed a lovely golden brown color.

Cool and Serve: Once they are done baking, remove the croissants from the oven and allow them to cool on a wire rack for about 5 minutes. Serve them warm for the best taste experience!
