Ingredients

8 oz fettuccine or spaghetti

1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined

2 cups broccoli florets

4 tbsp unsalted butter

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 tsp red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)

1 cup heavy cream

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Salt and black pepper, to taste

Juice of 1 lemon

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Cook the Pasta:

    - Bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil.

      - Add the fettuccine or spaghetti and cook according to the package instructions until al dente.

        - For the final 3 minutes of cooking, add the broccoli florets to the pot.

          - Once cooked, drain the pasta and broccoli, setting aside about 1 cup of the pasta water for later use.

            Prepare the Shrimp:

              - In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter over medium heat.

                - Add the shrimp to the skillet and season with salt and black pepper.

                  - Cook the shrimp for 2-3 minutes on each side or until they turn pink and opaque.

                    - Once cooked, remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside on a plate.

                      Make the Garlic Sauce:

                        - In the same skillet used for the shrimp, add the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter.

                          - As it melts, add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes, sautéing them together for about 1 minute until fragrant.

                            - Take care not to let the garlic burn, as this can develop a bitter flavor.

                              Create the Creamy Mixture:

                                - Pour the heavy cream into the skillet, stirring continuously.

                                  - Allow the mixture to gently simmer for a few minutes before incorporating the grated Parmesan cheese.

                                    - Stir until the cheese has fully melted into a smooth sauce.

                                      - If the sauce appears too thick, gradually add the reserved pasta water until you reach your desired consistency.

                                        Combine Ingredients:

                                          - Return the cooked shrimp and broccoli to the skillet, tossing them in the creamy sauce to ensure they are well-coated.

                                            - Squeeze the juice of one lemon into the mixture and taste for seasoning; add more salt or pepper if necessary.

                                              Serve:

                                                - Serve the pasta immediately in bowls or plates, garnished with a sprinkle of fresh parsley and an additional dusting of Parmesan cheese, if desired.
